Ten all natural ways to kick that nasty cold 

Welcome to the new year or…should I say…flu season?!? According to the news we are currently experiencing a flu epidemic this winter season! Fear not fellow friends! I have come up with TEN ways to foolproof and kick that NASTY cold so you can go back to ringing in this new year the right way!

1. Feeling HOT HOT HOT

No, i’m not talking about that fever! Spice your soup up and you could start feeling better much sooner! Adding all natural spices like chili, paprika, and turmeric can rev up that immune system! Capsaicin, found in spicy foods like chili powder, has been known to reduce inflammation (also great for the heart) and even destroy cancer cells! Next time you’re making a soup add some spice and start feeling nice!

2. Add more H2O to Glow

This one took you by surprise didn’t it? Of course not! You know far too well that drinking water is super important (thanks to Instagram fitness experts who constantly remind us) but how often do we actually listen? Drinking more fluids when you’re sick is crucial, but why? Fever, sweating, and diarrhea can cause your body to lose lots of water which is important for cell function. Replenishing this fluid is essential to getting better faster! Try adding in some lemon juice, and pink Himalayan salt for a boost of electrolytes!

3. A GINGER walks into a bar…

You know what i’m talking about. That “on the go remedy” we usually grab at some bar when our stomach isn’t feeling so well. “Tall glass of ginger ale please!” Turns out ginger has amazing beneficial effects on the digestive system! Chewing ginger came long before Pepto Bismol ever hit the market. Try this recipe when you’re nauseous! Boil 2 cups of water, lemon, chamomile tea, and grated ginger in a pot. Pour in a mug and sip slowly. Don’t worry. Things will get better soon!

4. Call out of work

No, seriously. Many of us refuse to call out and try to work through it. Stop being selfish. Yes, I said it! Nobody wants to catch the flu so please try to keep it contained to one location but call out for your own health! Your body and cells regenerate themselves when you sleep! Let your body relax and let your immune system get to work. You’ll cut the length of the flu just by simply sleeping it off. So kick off your shoes, put a marathon on that tv and Netflix & Chill with yourself. You deserve it!

5. Feeling salty?

If not, you should be! Unfortunately, one of the worst things about the flu is that awful sore throat! When did the Sahara desert decide to reside in the back of our throats making saliva feel like sandpaper?! Gargling salt water can draw out infections to the throat which can make it much easier to get rid of! Not only does it soothe the inflammation in your throat it can also cleanse you of impurities. Try this at home, super easy, remedy! In a glass mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 8 ounces of warm water. Gargle for 30 seconds every 2 hours. Hello salt bae, goodbye sore throat!

6. Burn baby burn

Fevers can quickly turn dangerous so please take extra care to check your body’s temperature! Fever is your body’s way of killing off harmful microbes in your body. Most microbes die around 102 degrees but if your fever is spiking above 104 go see a doctor immediately. Some natural ways to calm a fever is with essential oils! Eucalyptus, cinnamon, peppermint, and spearmint are great choices. These essential oils warm up the circulatory system in the body and helps your body disperse heat evenly throughout. it also helps induce sweating; aiding the body in dissipating heat! Mix 6-8 drops of essential oil in coconut oil and rub on your chest, back of the neck, and bottoms of your feet.

7. Shots shots shots shots shots🎵

And i don’t mean vaccines. Let’s not start that argument. Remember that bar remedy i spoke of earlier? Well, here’s a shot that will ease, prevent, and kick that cold! Best in a juicer but blender works just fine! Mix 1 garlic clove, 1 TBSP fresh ginger, 1 TSP lemon juice, 1/4 TSP cayenne pepper, 1/4 TSP turmeric powder, 2 cups of pineapple (or orange) juice, and 2 TBSP of real maple syrup. Pour in small glasses and take these immunity shots twice daily!

8. Time to get things steamy!

We’ve all heard of Epsom salt baths but did you know the salt actually helps to pull harmful toxins out of the body? The Epsom salt will soothe away your aches and pains and the steam will help open up your sinuses allowing you to breathe better! Try this bath detox tonight to help you feel like a million bucks in no time! Run a hot bath and add 2 cups of Epsom salt, 1 cup of baking soda, 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 5 drops of lavender oil. The peppermint acts as a decongestant while the lavender will help calm your mind helping you fall asleep faster. Make sure to drink a tall glass of water before this bath as it will make you sweat! 40 minute bath is recommended. Pamper away!

9. Walk it off

Nature’s own remedy! This is recommended for the last couple of days when you can actually get out of bed. Get out there and get some fresh air! Being confined to one space with bacteria circulating around is not an ideal way to beat that cold! Fresh air has been shown to actually kill bacteria! Sunshine provides the body with vitamin D, and elevates your mood! Who doesn’t need their mood elevated after getting the flu? Your body releases endorphins, which in turn, provide you with a euphoria of happiness. Get outside and get better! Can’t walk? No problem! Take a nice drive, play some of your favorite music, and roll the windows down. Time to cruise your way back to health.


we put our body, minds, and souls through so much! From work stress, to school stress, to family problems, and relationship problems. Our minds need to take a chill pill! It’s okay to press pause on life sometimes! When you’re happy your body is more opt to fight a cold off before it even begins! Spend time focusing more on the things that matter. Think of solutions instead of complications and eliminate toxic aspects of your life! Prevention is the best medicine! Use this time in bed to reflect on your life. What can you add to bring more joy? What can we eliminate? Your body is trying to tell you to be aware and slow down. Listen to it.
